Location

Center Harbor Town Beach is located on the northwestern part of Lake Winnipesaukee. The Lake Winnipesaukee is located in the state of New Hampshire, USA.

Historical significance

In 1797 Center Harbor was given the status of a town. Before that period it was a part of New Hampton. In 1852 the first annual rowing race called Harvard-Yale Regatta was held in Center Harbor. In that the race Harvard University won. This intercollegiate sporting event was the first of its kind in the US.

Tourist attractions

Whitewater rafting is possible in this region, but the rivers are more than 10 miles from the beach. You can also do some swimming and fishing at the beach. There are campgrounds within 5 miles from the beach like the Long Island Bridge Campground and the Provident Winnipesaukee Campground. Nature lovers can go walking on the many trails found in the region like the Rattlesnake Trail and Pasture Trail. Golf enthusiasts can engage themselves either at the Waukewan Golf Club, Highland Links Golf Club, or the Oak Hill Golf Course. The nearby lakes to this beach are the Lake Waukewan, Lake Kanasatka, and Squam Lake.

Specialty

The town of Center Harbor has the privilege of being the place where the first intercollegiate sporting event in the country was held. The event was called the Harvard-Yale Regatta.

The months between June and August are the best months of the year to visit the beach.

Access

You can catch a flight to the Moultonboro Airport, and from there catch a bus to the Center Harbor.
