Location

The Clifton Beach is located in a wide bay off the Chesapeake Bay near the border with Virginia, between the Blossom Points Proving Grounds and the Quantico Marine Corps Base. It is situated southwest of Nanjemoy, west of Grayton, and northwest from Maryland Point. The beach lies just west of Route 224. The beach forms a part of the boundary of the state of Maryland, USA. Just across the creek lies the Widewater Beach.

Tourist attractions

The beach is situated at a remote place along the shores of a bay. As there are no large settlements nearby one is not likely to find many tourists visiting the beach. It is not a popular beach. For this reason one will not find public facilities at the beach either. Some people travelling on the Route 224 can be seen at the beach along with those hiking along the shores of the bay. The beach is slightly curved and one can enjoy swimming along the shoreline.

If one is boating along the shoreline of the bay, then one can come across the beach. Boating is also a good way to explore the surroundings. Hikers can be seen sometimes resting at the beach. Apart from the waters there is not much one can enjoy at the beach.

But there are other places nearby which one can see like the Blue Banks, the Beaverdam Creek, and the Quantico Creek. Another water body here is the Wades Bay. A good place to see the surroundings is at Smith Point. Some of the nature parks situated nearby are the Purse State Park, Doncaster State Forest, the General Smallwood State Park, the Chapel Point State Park, and the Thomas Stone National Historic Site.

But if one wants to see the natural beauty of the place, one can traverse the trails like the Maiden Fair Trail, Pine Grove Forest Trail, Burnt Pine Trail, The Crossing Trail, and the Birch Bluff Trail.

Best period to visit

One can visit the beach during the month of February.

Access

From the Route 224 also known as Riverside Rd., exit the route south of Purse State Park and travel west to the beach.

The nearest airports are the Stafford Regional Airport and the Shannon Airport situated south east across the creek. The other is the Reagan National Airport near Washington.
