Location

The Goose Rocks Beach is near to Kennebunkport. It is in the York County of Maine, USA.

Historical significance

The Cape Porpoise is a coastal village near to the beach. Captain John Smith called the area the Cape Porpoise in 1614. The English arrived here in 1620. At first the town was called as the Cape Porpus.

The Goat Island Light is near to the beach. It was constructed in 1859. According to the Abenaki Indians, Kennebunk means 'the long cut bank'. The Kennebunk town which lies close to the beach was settled in 1620.

Tourist attractions

The Goose Rocks Beach is a popular tourist destination. Those who want to enjoy the beach in peace and calmness should come here. This is a white sandy beach. The sand here is so smooth that it looks like sugar. This is a favorite beach for sunbathers. Those who want to enjoy the cool waters in solitude should also come here.

The tidal pools and the sand dunes here add to its beauty. The beach is adorned with wonderful seashells. You can enjoy shelling here with your kids.

Those who like to play golf can enjoy it here. The Out Of The Rough Indoor Golf Club, Cape Arundel Golf Club, and the Dutch Elm Golf Course are some of the golf courses near to here.

The Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge is near to the beach. This is one of the favorite spots for bird watchers. You can see migratory birds like the sharp-shinned hawk, broad-winged hawk, and the cooper’s hawk here.

The Walker's Point is also near to the Kennebunk Town. President George W. Bush's grandfather George Herbert Walker constructed a summer home in the Walker's Point. In 2007, the French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Russian President Vladimir Putin came here.

Specialty

The Wedding Cake House is a classic example of the Federal architecture. The amazing beauty of the building will surprise you. It was constructed in 1826 by George W. Bourne. Legend says that Bourne did all the carvings here himself. You can take wonderful snaps with your soul mate here.

Best period to visit

It is nice to be here in summer. So tourists normally visit the beach in the month of August. In the month of November there will be plenty of rainfall.

Access

The Biddeford Municipal Airport and the National Highway 95 are near to the beach. The Dyke Road which is near to the Goose Rocks Road will take you to the beach directly.
