Location

The Matunuck Beach is situated between the A B Carpenters Beach on its west and the East Matunuck State Beach on its east. This is a short beach and is a part of the Washington County’s southern coastline in the State of Rhode Island, USA.

Tourist attractions

There is shallow water extending to some distance from the beach. This makes it an attractive place for those who like to venture further into the water while visiting the beach. One may enjoy walking over the undulating sand dunes. The alternate patches of sand and water makes it an adventurous spot for many.

One may enjoy swimming at the beach. The waves break early sometimes before reaching the shore. This makes it easier for many swimmers. During low tides some part of the sand dunes are exposed and people visiting the beach may be seen walking towards these dunes. The beach has been subjected to erosion with time and some parts of the beach have been lost to the waves.

Another activity one may indulge in when visiting the beach is boating. The Potters Pond is situated north to the beach. There are many piers and boat ramps situated north from the beach in the waters of the Potters Pond. Some of these boats can be seen sometimes speeding past the beach. People riding these boats use the mouth of the Point Judith Pond to emerge into the water of the Block Island Sound.

The beach is a recreation spot for the residents of Matunuck. They can be seen at the beach during weekends and during holidays. The other nearby residents may also be seen at the beach. The beach does not provide public facilities and hence is not a favorite tourist beach.

There are some beach side houses situated beside the beach. There is a small parking facility for the visitors to the beach at the eastern end of the beach. The beach is situated in a coastline that has many beaches. Hence those traveling along this coastline may come across beaches like the A B Carpenters Beach, East Matunuck State Beach, Salty Brine Beach, Roy Carpenters Beach, and the Willow Dell Beach.

There are also some ponds both big and small near the beach. These are the Card Pond, Trustom Pond, the Tucker Pond with many smaller ponds beside it, Wordens Pond, and the Green Hill Pond. There is also a nature reserve called the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge. The other such similar area is the Burlingame State Park. On the eastern side is the Fisherman’s Memorial State Park and the Point Judith Country Club. There is also a golfing facility called the Shelter Harbor Golf Club.
